WJPS Seniors Quincy Tunstall and Caroline Debonis signed their letters of intent to their respective Universities as student athletes.
Representatives from the Universities made an appearance and supported the momentous event. Both students have received recognition from these colleges and have been accepted to play on their desired professional sports teams.
“It had everything I wanted in a school. I loved the campus, I was so shocked by the look of the campus, the team they have is very nice,” Debonis said.
Tunstall has been accepted to Northwestern Oklahoma State University to play baseball, while DeBonis was accepted to Quinnipiac University to play soccer.
“The college was brought to my attention by Mr. Millman. Before I came to WJPS, I lived in the south, so I always wanted to go back there and live in the south again like I did,” Tunstall said.
Students and faculty are all proud of the accomplishments of both Tunstall and DeBonis. However, they weren’t the first seniors to receive an Academic scholarship in the school.
“We actually had one in 2010 named Jeremy Rodriguez who went down to Texas to play baseball,” Faculty member Mr. Millman said.
Both students will continue their sports career on their respective colleges, without forgetting where they all started from.
Despite the fact that the school is a small community that lacks engagement in High School sports, there are still students that participate in sports in other schools. Hopefully Debonis and Tunstall aren’t the last students to accomplish this feat.
